How do I sync multiple Groupwise personal address books with my Blackberry Handheld?
The short answer is you can't. Since the Blackberry Handheld doesn't really use multiple "books", it just uses categories. On the Blackberry Enterprise Server each user can only have one personal address book set to synchronize.
There is a work around that will allow you to sync your contacts from multiple personal address books.
1) Define your categories list. In your Groupwise folder list to the left, choose "Contacts". On the right side of the screen RIGHT-click once on any contact and choose CATEGORIES. Click on MORE to open up the category editor. Manage your list of categories by adding, deleting or editing the names until you have a list of categories that will help you sort all of your personal address books. I.E. you can create a category the same name as a personal address book folder.
2) Make the categories column show in the contact listing. Click on the top line where the column headings are and choose "MORE COLUMNS". Add the column from the right "CATEGORIES" so that it shows in the list on the left and click OK; now that you can see the categories column in the contact listing.
3) Choose an address book to set categories for. On the left side of the screen RIGHT-click on contacts and choose properties. Set your "Contacts" folder to point to one of your personal address books. On the right side of the screen you will see the contacts in that personal address book.
4) Set the category for all the contacts in the address book. Click once on the top person in the list, scroll down and SHIFT click on the bottom person in the list. Now Right Click on any highlighted contact and choose the category for the highlighted contacts (probably the category you created by the same name as the address book name).
5) Set all your personal address book categories. Repeat steps 3 and 4 above for all of your person address books, setting the category to the same name as the address book name.
6) Create a new personal address book which will be the one the Blackberry Syncs with. Create a new personal address book in Groupwise called "Blackberry" - within Address Book, click File / New Book / and make the name "Blackberry".
7) Copy each personal address book into the new Blackberry address book. For each book, shift click on the top and bottom person in the list of contacts and then right click on one of the highlighted contacts. Choose COPY TO and then choose the new Blackberry address book. Repeat this step for each of your personal address books.
8) Force a wireless sync. The address book sync can take a few hours from Groupwise to the Blackberry handheld. To force a sync sooner, while in Contacts, choose Options from the menu. Turn Wireless Sync OFF, Save the settings, then exit the Contacts. Go back into the contacts choose Options from the menu and turn wireless sync back ON, Save the settings and exit back to the HOME menu.
Note: This may change the way you look at the GroupWise address book. Now, instead of using a bunch of address books in GroupWise, you may wish to use the one personal book Blackberry. Then, instead of multiple books, use Categories. On the Blackberry handheld choose "FILTER" from the menu and choose a category, the Blackberry filters the addresses and you only see that category.

How can I tell how good my phone signal is?
The bars on the top right of the phone indicate how strong your phone signal
is. The more bars, the better the signal. If you want numbers instead of the
bars: You can change the display of the 'signal strength' to read in real numbers.
While at the home screen (ribbon), hold down the half moon key
while
you type NMLL. The bars should change to read numbers. For the 'signal strength',
if you are in the 100 area (that means -100 dBm), you will be transmitting at
maximum power (2 Watts), and since coverage is hit and miss at this weak a signal,
you may end up transmitting many times before the packets make it through. This
might help explain any poorer than normal battery life. I consider anything
at -90 to -50 excellent.

How can I extend my Blackberry's battery life?
Here are some ways of extending battery life.
You need to break in the BlackBerry battery. Charge-discharge it fully about
3 times. This will max the battery life of a fresh, new Lithium ion. Once you
do that, don't get in the habit of fully discharging the battery everytime --
to prevent wearing it out -- lithium batteries can be damaged with excessive
deep discharges like a car battery can be.... When breaking in the battery,
make sure you keep it plugged in long after the battery says it is fully charged
(i.e. overnight), you really want to trickle-charge your BlackBerry to top-off
your battery. Lithium batteries LOVE to be topped-off. In regular use (After
initial first-use conditioning), plug it in whenever you have the opportunity.
This will also help keep the battery life maxed out for those days you really
need long battery life. Phone calls made on your BlackBerry is the biggest consumer
of battery life. If you make lots of phone calls for hours, then your battery
life can be extremely short. Making phone calls in areas of weak reception will
also use up more battery power. Consider a car power kit, or an office charger/cable.
That way, you have more opportunities to top-off your BlackBerry battery. As
noted earlier, it's always a good idea to top-off the battery in a BlackBerry
anyway, even if it's not almost dead. It is not necessary to follow the age-old
advice of using up the battery before charging, and can wear out modern lithium-ion
batteries if done on a constant basis.
1. Use the Auto On/Off feature (Options > Auto On/Off) to have the device automatically power off and power on overnight.
2. When wireless coverage is not needed users should Turn Wireless Off.
3. Within the Profiles application on the device try to minimize the number of notifications for often-occurring events like new email messages. Chose between tone, vibrate or LED notifications to minimize the absolute number of notification types for such common events.
4. For new Bluetooth-enabled BlackBerry devices when the user is not using Bluetooth they should Turn Bluetooth Off.
5. Lastly, when you are not using your device put it in the holster as this will power off the LCD screen to conserve power!

After five incorrect attempts at typing in your password, the password starts echoing (figuring you really need all the help you can get). After ten attempts, it performs a lobotomy on itself and almost all data is cleared. The Memo database, however, is retained and visible.
